This week, we learned about the derivatives of inverse trig functions. I had gotten pretty used to derivatives by now, but these inverse derivatives were ridiculously convoluted. They had stuff like (d/dx)sin^-1(x)=1/(sqrt(1-x^2)), which is kind of a pain once you have to do either the product, quotient, or chain rule. Other than that, it was pretty straight forward. It wasn't anything groundbreaking, just a lot of work.
We also learned about derivatives of exponential and logarithmic functions on Wednesday. Unfortunately, I had to take a sick day that day, but I already knew about the derivative of e^x, which is e^x, and the derivative of a^x wasn't too bad. All I really had to do there was look at a friend's notes. Still, I wish I could have been there when we went through the examples, but I suppose I'll have plenty of that when we go through the review.
Oh yeah, the rest of the week was devoted to doing the chapter review. The first thirty questions started out okay, but it quickly turned hellish as things like quotient rule and chain rule turned the derivative into something really big and messy. That wasn't too fun. Then again, the stuff after it wasn't much better. Still, I'm about halfway through the review now. Keep on trucking, I guess.
