We kicked off this week with the chapter 4 test on a 2 hour delayed Monday, which was pretty scary. But as it turned out, we only did the non-calculator portion on Monday, which was really short and easy. It was just the thing where we had to draw the graph of a function by finding the first and second derivatives. I finished with like, half of class left, which is pretty impressive for me since I'm usually super slow.
The next day was a lot harder, as that was the calculator portion. The derivatives at the beginning were easy enough, but then I didn't feel super great about the optimization and related rates at the end. But I asked around and it seems a lot of other people got the same thing, so at least if I got it wrong, then everyone else did too.
After that nightmare was over, we had our introduction activity to Estimating With Finite Sums. We had to find the area of some weird... cloud... thing. There were a lot of ways to do it, but I chose to do it by drawing up a grid and counting EVERY. SINGLE. SQUARE. I had to estimate a long time and it took me awhile, but I don't really think there was a more accurate way to do it.
After that, we started learning the unit proper. We took some notes and did the assignment. I didn't really have any trouble with it, since it's really just drawing rectangles and adding up the area. Yeah, I feel pretty confident about it.
Happy Winter Break though, see y'all in 2015.
